A track for Research in Astrobiology

FRACTALE . Amazed by his discovery, José María Gómez wanted to look more closely at the subject. So he studied the process in a more scientific, Laboratory of biominéralogie and astrobiological research (LBMARS) from the University of Valladolid, Spain.

Actually this is not the first time that such training is observed. They are found in salt solutions containing protein. This however is the first study showing that bacterial cells can generate biosalines structures with self-organizing pattern formed as the drawings for the fractal objects . Further work is underway to try to understand how the bacteria are to control the crystallization of sodium chloride.

This new finding was published in the journal Astrobiology . It is no coincidence because the detection of such crystals on other planets might be a clue that life thrives. Or there has existed. "Given the richness and complexity of these structures, they can be used as biological signatures in extremely dry environments such as Mars or other exoplanets "adds the scientist.

The LBMARS is also in charge of the Raman instrument which will power the rover ExoMars , the European Space Agency, which is expected to arrive on Mars in 2018 This instrument, a spectrometer, is specially dedicated to the search for biomarkers biosalines as these structures.

A safe haven

"It was a complete surprise, a totally unexpected result," says José María Gómez, Spanish biologist. It was at his home, with a simple microscope public, he noticed the strange behavior of drops immersed in saltwater bacteria. After a few hours, they form structures biosalines altering the crystallization of sodium chloride. These models are three-dimensional and are shelters in which Escherichia goes dormant. Just rehydrate all for bacteria to wake up.

"At first it was impossible to incise the tumor. But when it was opened, the small teeth started to come out like pearls. We counted 232! I had never seen that in 30 years of career "says the director of the dental department of the hospital told the BBC.  This exceptional operation lasted nearly seven hours.

The odontoma is the most common dental tumor. Dental tissues grow uncontrollably in the gingiva of the maxilla bone.  When fully developed, the odontoma consists of enamel, dentin and pulp of a variable quantity. This type of tumor most frequently affects young patients (between 14 and 20 years) and is fairly common.

This is very rare however, is to find as much tooth structure formed in a single bag.  According to the director, less than forty teeth had been removed in the previous case of odontoma listed.

The hospital officials and considering the inclusion of the case Gavai Ashiq the Guinness Book of Records for the largest number of teeth extracted from a single mouth. Meanwhile, the teenager went home with 28 teeth. But there will be regular medical care in case of new teeth make their appearance.

Doctors at  the JJ Hospital in Mumbai India withdrew as many as 232 teeth from the mouth of a young patient of 17 years in an operation that took place Monday, July 21. Ashik Gaval suffered from intense jaw pain for more than a year before leaving his village and go in search of a treatment in the city.

There, doctors diagnosed him with a dental odontoma complex form,  a benign tumor of the tooth.

It is "a complex odontoma that caused the formation of several teeth from a single gum," says Sunanda Dhiware dentist.

"The elephant was left unattended after his number when he was angry," she had said, while counsel for the accused Mr. David Missistrano ensured that all safety regulations were followed.

The hearing did not clarify the reason for the presence of the tank near the enclosure of the animal. Similarly few material items were collected by the investigators to document the lives of the pachyderm, a victim of "abuse" that would have made more aggressive by animal rights groups.

These past several years claimed that the elephant "kind of circus" to be sent "to a sanctuary in South Africa," as she continues to tour.

An African elephant, which had just regained his enclosure electrified after a number, was released with a tarp that was nearby. The pachyderm had then taken a second enclosure formed barriers and trailers.

the mass slaughter of dogs in bali

"FIRM ACTION". "Dogs were brought illegally slaughtered (in Bali.) In such cases, we try to find the owners to make them (the dogs) and make sure they are vaccinated. But when they n 'belong to anyone, we have to shoot them, "said Mr. Sumantra, believing that this ongoing problem required a" firm action ".

Questioned by AFP, the Association for the Defence of Animal Rights Peta strongly condemned such practices "inhuman", "local animal rights groups have established successful vaccination programs, and the number of human affected by rabies has dropped significantly, "said Peta in a statement.

TOURISM. Indonesian authorities have also taken steps that resulted in the vaccination of more than 300,000 dogs against rabies, dropping significantly the number of deaths among humans who have contracted the virus in Bali. Since 2012, ten people died from the disease, against 147 a few years ago.

A petition on Change.org platform calling for the end the mass slaughter of dogs collected more than 20,000 signatures, and Peta warned against the impact on tourism in Bali - much frequented by Westerners destination - considering that "number of people experiencing compassion" after discovering these practices "will give up to go to Bali . YOUTUBE. On the Indonesian island of Bali, authorities mass slaughter of dogs in the fight against rabies. The practice came to light after the appearance of a 16 minute video, posted on YouTube. It shows more than thirty frightened dogs barking incessantly before receiving a lethal injection. The animals end up falling on top of each other, shouting, animated violent convulsions before dying.

Defenders of animal rights have rebelled against the "inhumane slaughter." But the chief sanitary animals in Bali, Putu Sumantra, told AFP he was not about to stop these practices.

iron to the ocean allowed the cyanobacteria

CYANOBACTERIA . For scientists this supply of iron to the ocean allowed the cyanobacteria, "blue algae" to proliferate. "Their metabolism requires ten times more iron than other photosynthetic organisms," explains Peter Swart, lead author of the study. Now these cyanobacteria produce calcium carbonate galore. This material makes up the exoskeleton of corals but also the platform diving from which emerge the Bahamas. This platform has a thickness of carbonates of 4.5 kilometers and formed by carbonate precipitation excreted by cyanobacteria during the last 100 million years.
